Free Pattern
Felted Wall Pocket
Supplies
Circular needle size 9, 16”(optional)
Double points, size 9, set of 5
Safety Pin or pin style marker
Patton's Classic Wool (or wool of your choice)
As you begin the first round you will be knitting with the fifth needle,
and increasing immediately. Don’t forget to add your safety pin marker
to mark the beginning of the round. This pouch is knit from the bottom up.
With double points and wool yarn, cast on 8sts.
Divide the 8sts on 4 needles. (2sts/needle).
Rnd 1 Increase in each st (knit in the front and the back of each st) (16sts)
Rnd 2 and ALL even numbered rounds.....Knit
Rnd 3 (K1, kfb of next st) repeat this pattern 8 times to marker. (24sts)
Rnd 5 (K2, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (32sts)
Rnd 7 (K3, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (40sts)
Rnd 9: (K4, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (48sts)
Rnd 11 (K5, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (56sts)
Rnd 13 (K6, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (64sts)
Rnd 15 (K7, kfb) repeat this pattern 8 times. (72sts)
Rnd 16 through 70, knit.
Rnd 71 BO all but 6 sts.
With these 6sts you will knit an “i” cord until it reaches approximately 4” long.
Bind off and attach about and inch from where the i-cord starts to make your
loop. Don’t knit the i-cord too long, it won’t shrink alot.
Now, felt your pocket.
Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t shrink too much.
Shaping
You may use a candle jar or even an empty two liter bottle.
If you felt until its small, you can use a 16oz empty soda bottle to shape.
Dig through your cupboards, you will find the perfect shape.
Perhaps a jar of peanutbutter, a canning jar etc.
A ball can help create a round bottom if you want a hanging pouch.
I like to hang mine from the loop while drying.
Adjusting the size
You may adjust the circumference of your felted pocket by adding to
or subtracting from round 15. These first 15 rows are your base before knitting
straiht up. Notice the progression of the k1, kfb, k2, kfb, k3, kfb pattern.
This will help you add on. Adding or subracting knit rows between
rounds 16 & 70 will adjust your heights.
